CB in Lpool

1st May, 2016

Part I

The Merseyside Division of the Caribbean Princess Fan Club (aka T & I, me & T, us) were out & about at (exactly) 05:37 this morning to see the ship sail up the Mersey & dock at Liverpool's cruise terminal.

It was a beautiful sunrise - the skies certainly dressed up to meet the ship 😊
She wasn't due into port until 8:00am but when I checked the bridgecam at 4:45 (I wake early!) it showed she was close to land so we got up, got ready and got to Seacombe Ferry just in time to see her arrive at the mouth of the Mersey.

Truth be told, she's not as pretty as the Island Princess (the only other ship we've been lucky enough to sail on) but she still looked magnificent on the water.
There's a good chance I woke people up with my excited screaming..T must've thought so too, he told me off  😕
It was soooo cold - about 2C - but we stayed on the prom until she docked (we're either totally daft or martyrs to the cause.....or both! 😉).  Then we got back in the car & drove further along with Wirral coastline & stopped at Woodside Ferry to get some snaps from there too.

This is the CB's journey up the river - doesn't she look lovely against the Liverpool skyline?

You can see the time on the Liver Building's clocks - she was 1hr 35mins early!

Our car had a good view!, I'm wrapped up against the cold - T was freezing with no hat on - it was bitter, brrrrr

A quick view of the CB from Woodside Ferry

T & I both used to work in the building that's circled.  What a cheek!, it's photo-bombed our shot 😂😂

X (or a circle) marks the spot - this is our room <screams loudly>

Part II

Well we had a great afternoon.
We went back to Seacombe Ferry to catch the famous "Ferry 'Cross the Mersey" (yep, they played the Gerry & The Pacemakers' song lol) and sailed over to Liverpool for a closer look at the CB.
I was that excited, T reckons we could save ourselves a fortune & just spend 17 days travelling from Seacombe to Woodside to Liverpool to Seacombe on the ferry...
(I laughed so much at that!! ☹️☹️☹️).

Once we got to Liverpool, we had a walk around the pier head and even had an illicit nose in the cruise terminal......
  • We managed to (inadvertently) by-pass security (a couple of people in hi-viz jackets), stroll past all the coaches loading passengers for their afternoon sight-seeing trips and check out the "last minute gift" kiosks in the terminal building itself.
We must have looked the part though - just as we walked out of the building, another hi-vizzer wanted to know if we were OK and when we said we were, he told us to have a lovely day.  What a nice man 👍😂
We loved having a chance to look around & really didn't have a clue that we shouldn't have been there until we were walking out of the railed area and noticed that people walking in were showing IDs to the high viz blokes (nobody asked for our IDs.....honest!).

Once we'd cleared the no-go-go-where-you-like passenger only zone!, we walked along the quayside checking the ship out from front to back.  I took a load more pictures and carried on telling everyone we spoke to (it started with the bloke in the Seacombe ticket office & ended with a lovely American guy in the Liverpool Ferry terminal) that we were going on the CB in September - a few of them also got to find out that it's T's 60th birthday celebration (I was on a roll folks).

Here are the afternoon pics.............

Birkenhead Town Hall (you can also see it in my blog banner at the top of each page)

I suppose the railings do sort of give it away! but we honestly had no idea that we'd entered a secure area

Loading supplies & doing a bit of DIY
(T reckons the painter must've misbehaved - why else would he be made to do that in such awful weather?)

We did go back to see the CB leave - the pics are a bit samey so I won't post any more but it was nice to wave goodbye.
The next time we see her will be just a week before we board when she revisits Liverpool for the last time this year - that will be 28th August.
